A Personal Take: I did not realize this page existed until many years later, and being unaware of these policies meant we couldn’t make fully informed decisions early on. We always admired sailors who went overseas with the federation to compete. Today, I know that you do not need to be in the national squad to be selected to represent Singapore—as long as you meet the qualification requirements.
Selection Policy Spotlight: 2026 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship

Qualification Requirements
To qualify for selection, your sailor must:
- Compete in the Optimist Gold Fleet during the selection events.
- Achieve one of the lowest combined race scores to rank among the Top 10 sailors overall (with a minimum quota of 3 sailors of the opposite gender).

- SSF Selection Trials: 22–23 & 29–30 August 2026
- Singapore National Sailing Championships: 11–13 September 2026

Venue Overview: Colombo Port City Beach, Sri Lanka
The 2026 IODA Asian & Oceanian Championship will take place at the newly developed Colombo Port City Beach in Sri Lanka.
- The Setup: A 1.5 km long and 50-meter-wide artificial beach connected to Galle Face via a footbridge.
- Facilities: Marked swimming zones, clean shower facilities, a convenient food court, and various watersports.
- Atmosphere: Known for its clean walking paths and peaceful environment, it provides an excellent venue for both intense competition and relaxing family time
